Ostrava is a large relatively recently de-industrialised city. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the industrial heritage. It appears to be a series of individual areas that have amalgamated into a large town. The public transport system of busses, trolley-busses and trams is very good. There are good restaurants, but the nightlife is limited in the centre to a couple of small areas, one of which closes early. The people were very friendly and helpful.

The city is fun, but...
The city is fun, but...I just spent to much time on the public transportation app. Here is what I learn that would have been most helpful for American travelers.
If all of your party has their own Visa Credit card with tap to pay feature, you are already going to have an easier time!!! It doesn't take any American Express. You have to tap to pay go on the DPO, Ostrava's public transportation. The bus police doesn't always check, but as a visitor this was persistent fear.
If you have a child, who will ride you all the time, or you have a person who doesn't have a Visa with a tap to pay feature. You must only get your bus card at the Ostrava main train station!!!! I went DPO kiosk near an Albert supermarket, as stated on the DPO website! It was not dispensing cards. The city decided to get rid of cards recently, except at the Ostrava Main Train Station!
Don't you bother to bring cash on the public transit. It doesn't take it.
Don't try to get the 3 day pay by the DPO App. The app is broken. I even uploaded an image of my kids' picture and passport, and the app still did not take any money, and did get me a pass. It take 2-3 days for them to approve the photo and passport and but the app was not letting me purchase the 3 day pass. I only know that they still had cards because I sent an email to DPO after my stay and they advised me to go to the Ostrava main train station next time. Every regular Ostrava person, I talked to said the cards are not available, but I guess they have them only in one place.

Ostrava is constantly changing for better.y first visit was back in min 1990s and it was a horrible, dirty, industrial place. Now it is green, mostly clean and fun. The former Vitkovice area refurbished, remade to an excellent art, event and historic place with that industrial background defo worth visit and other places as well.

To be honest,Ostrava was chosen as the last night of my holiday in Hungary as it was convenient for travelling to Krakow for my flight home the next day.(Yes, I know it's in the Czech Republic, but my holiday was in Hungary).
My interests are football and railways, and I knew Ostrava was an excellent destination for a railway enthusiast like myself.
As for the city itself, apart from the Forum complex, which was excellent, I didn't see anything to particularly attracr me, although it was dark most of the time, so no disrespect to the city in case I just missed its great attractions. However I am aware it is an industrial city.

Ostrava is growing up really fast!
Ostrava is growing up really fast! I have not been there for couple of years and I was surprised how many new cool places are there and how many different activities you can plan there. It is definitely worth a visit! Unfortunately the local airport still does not provide any flights except only one from London and Warsaw so if you fly, like we did, you have to go from Krakow, Katowice or Prague.
The stuff that work for the hotel are incredible. I accidentally booked the wrong dates and they immediately help me with cancelation process. Helpful and friendly. Please have in mind they don't speak English, but this is not an issue nowa days.
Instructions they provided were clear and correct. No issue with check in and check out. Everything went super smooth.
The room was warm and nice. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was clean. It is good value for this price.
It is 3km away from the center, but we enjoyed the night walk.
The place is nicely renovated and in keeping with the chateau style. The room was comfortable and quite big. We had a junior suite.
There are nice outside areas to sit and walk around. And even a ruin in the back of the garden.
The hotel is quite close to downtown Ostrava, and some tourist attractions such as Landek and Bolt Tower.
We were quite happy with the accommodation. And the price is fair. We didn’t mind to be all alone, as we enjoyed the silence
So all in all the place is very lovely.
The hotel was immaculately clean and the staff were genuinely welcoming, kind, accommodating and helpful from beginning to end. The breakfast was served a la carte and was simply marvelous - not to mention the kitchen manager/chef was prompt and attentive to check in on guests whether they needed anything else. Overall, the value for the attention to detail from the staff, quality of the breakfast, location and cleanliness was exceptional.
I have stayed at several hotel in Ostrava, but have found this one to be the best place for the money. The first thing that makes this hotel stick out above the rest, is truely the staff. Kind, friendly, very helpful. The second is location. You are so close to public trasportation as well as the center of the city.
Good location near the center. Large room, comfortable beds. There is a mini bar. The staff is responsive and helpful. There are breakfasts. The lobby has comfortable chairs, a table and a coffee machine. You can buy local souvenirs. There is a small car park in front of the hotel entrance.
Very clean room, friendly stuff! Surprise in room - small candy Pack! :) Very good sheet and pillow - had great sleep!
Breakfest - georgious! Bigest tea selection I have seen on hotels. They even have vitamin table - where You can mix Water with vitamin drop for Your health!
Place where return!
Great location, great accommodation, great service. Very good combo value + quality. Hotel staff are polite and helpful. Rooms have mini bar, flat TV, very good shower. Tasty continental breakfast. Highly recommended if your are visiting Ostrava.
Really nice design of that beautiful place. Small but it matches for most of your daily needs. Location is real close to the Ostrava Zoo and quite clise to downtown. Owner is very helpful. Place is in a quite residential area. Would visit again.
Nothing really, i have picked this hostel because you can walk 10 mins to Ostrava university.
I was lucky the hostel was empty during my stay, but I think if there were people staying during my time it wouldn't be quite as I have experienced.
The host is very caring and friendly, full of information and useful Tipps for your stay in Ostrava and Czech Republic. The hostel offers everything you wish, easy atmosphere. it is very practically located close to the train station.
An awesome place deep in the forest for something different..Very tidy and clean. Stopped here enroute from Parague Airport heading to Zakopane, Poland.
Had a great view over the city. Went for a morning walk in the forest.
, the perfect location in the city, everything a family with small children might need, the perfect place, the hotel has a small restaurant, it's perfect for a whole family, I recommend it

Very nice small hotel, right on Stodolni street. Even though the windows faces the street, not noisy during the night. Room is ok, everything is new and clean. Very good breakfast.
